Motorists who travel Overlanders Bridge may have noticed a green tarp and scaffolding covering one of the south-end piers in recent days.
City streets manager Jim McNeely said Tuesday that a contractor is removing loose concrete from Pier 9, the pier between the CP Rail line and the river.
Some of the surface concrete has come loose from the main core of the pier, said McNeely.
“In order to prevent pieces falling off randomly and exposing the reinforcing bars to the elements, we are removing all the loose concrete and replacing it with new material,” he added.
The cost of the project is around $140,000.
Work is expected to be finished by the first week of November.
