Man recovers in hospital after stab in the neck

Driver who took him to RIH in police custody

A 25-year-old Pritchard man is in stable condition at Royal Inland Hospital after suffering a life-threatening stab to his neck early Monday morning.

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Grant Learned said the man and his 19-year-old girlfriend were dropped off at the RIH emergency room at 12:30 a.m. by a suspect driving a Ford Explorer.

The victim collapsed inside the hospital doors and underwent surgery. Learned said his blood pressure dropped alarmingly low a few times, but the man is now considered to be in serious but stable condition as he recovers.

The Ford driver left the vehicle at the hospital. Police found him a short while later and arrested him. A 25-year-old Kamloops man is in police custody.

Both men are known to police for drug and property offences, Learned said.

Officers are analysing the Explorer and the suspect's apartment on Whiteshield Crescent. The suspect did not live alone.

Witnesses are being interviewed by police, but the victim has not yet been in condition to make any statements.

Learned said possible charges could include aggravated assault.
