The peewee Kamloops Wildcats scored 28 second-half points and beat the host Salmon Arm Colts 35-14 in Southern Interior Football Conference play on Sunday.

Mathew Stanhope’s fumble recovery and Rorik Munson’s blocked punt sparked the comeback in the third quarter.

Solid offensive line play by Preston Jenkins, Jagger Reid, Bryce Welz, Mateo Viani and Brennan Ettinger paved the way for Ben Prokopetz to run for 193 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Carsen Day connected with Victor Church on a four-yard touchdown pass and hit Mattias Nelson for another 31 yards.

Mike MacDonald, Marcus Kyle, Reggie O’Rourke and Adam Buholzer contributed 64 yards on the ground. Sean Smit completed the scoring by rushing and kicking two converts.

Munson led the defence with seven solo tackles, with Riley Eccles, Gregory Griffiths, Colby Griffiths, Eric Thibault and Michael Fryer contributing 17 others. Nick Berry’s fourth-quarter interception sealed the victory.

The Wildcats will look to improve their 3-5 record on Sunday at noon as they play host to the Kelowna Dragons at Valleyview Secondary.
