Pool owners being squeezed two ways

Kamloops’s pool owners are being squeezed two ways and it will no doubt hurt the pocketbook.

First off, all Kamloops pool owners already pay higher property taxes for the luxury of owning a swimming pool on their property.

That’s fair enough. It is a luxury and the City of Kamloops charges extra taxes to those who happen to own a swimming pool.

Here’s the double squeeze. Enter the water-meter program. Can you imagine just how much more a Kamloops swimming pool owner is going to pay for the mere act of refilling their pool every spring? This water will be charged for by the litre.

I believe this is a unique circumstance affecting Kamloops swimming pool owners only.

Swimming pool owners will now pay much more than just higher property taxes. They will also pay more for water and that’s by the litre — a double gouge.

So, open up the pocketbooks come springtime, Kamloops swimming pool owners. Don’t let your heart stop when that first big spring water bill comes gushing in.
