City Briefs: Barnhartvale faces a dry day

Some Barnhartvale residents should fill up their pots and sinks in anticipation of their water being cut off during the day Friday.

The City is doing some utility upgrades between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., resulting in water being cut to residences on Belair, Clearview and Highridge drives.

The taps should be flowing again by 4 p.m.

Rethink what you toss during Waste Reduction Week

The City wants to remind residents that Oct. 15 to 21 is Waste Reduction Week.

Unwanted items don’t necessarily have to go in the trash; if they’re in good shape, they can be passed on to someone else through recycling programs at various community agencies with second-hand stores.

Other items, such as used oil, fluorescent bulbs, electronics and paint can be recycled through local program. Information is available by calling the Recycling Council of B.C. at 1-800-667-4321 or go online to www.rcbc.bc.ca.

And the City’s Mission Flats landfill will handle the following: household paints and pesticides, flammable liquids, gasoline, batteries, thermostats, electronics, appliances, light fixtures, propane tanks, tires, metal, cardboard and wood.
