Parents need to be involved in kids’ lives

Parents get in your kids business  — they aren't as innocent as you would like to believe. Kids, especially teens, are not very smart socially.

They need guidance, rules, boundaries. They need parents —not BFF's! They need their privacy invaded when it comes to outlets like Facebook, Skype, etc.

If they want privacy, get them a journal. They need goals and achievements, challenging ones. The Internet has provided bullies a place to bully 24/7 from anywhere.

At one time we could go home and escape it, not so anymore. All it takes is one bad seed to instigate a group of generally decent teens. We as adults and a community need to get in our kids’ business. They need us!

Remember the novel Lord of the Flies? Utter chaos results when children are left to govern themselves, which unsupervised activity on the Internet is letting children do. That book was written in the 1950s. Human nature has not changed, but our culture has.

Save your children from themselves, know what they are doing.
