If you can’t make it to next Wednesday’s downtown parking meeting sponsored by the Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association, perhaps Thursday night’s event will fit your schedule.

The Kamloops Voters Society is holding a public meeting on downtown parking on Thursday, Oct. 25, at Desert Gardens on 500-block Seymour Street from 7 to 9 p.m.

The information event will include a review of the options being put forward by the KCBIA’s parking solutions group, and there will be City representatives on hand to answer questions as well.

Brad Harrison of the KVS said Thursday the two meetings will complement each other and play off each other.

Retired Daily News editor Mel Rothenburger is moderating and there will be a panel that includes City chief administrator David Trawin, City community enforcement manager Jon Wilson, developer Casey Van Dongen, business owner Denis Walsh and a downtown resident.

“The idea is we’re not taking a side at all,” said Harrison.

Rather, the group just wants to get ideas generated to find solutions to the lack of parking downtown.

“We think there’s some good ideas out there and this is a chance for whoever wants to come and say their piece. It’s not a debate. It’s a chance to be constructive and give people, public and small business owners, have an opportunity to say what they think and hear some ideas.”

Harrison said he expects his group to hold a follow-up meeting in about a month to go over which solutions might work.

“Our goal is improving the city through better engagement and awareness.”
