Two Kamloops women have returned from the San Francisco Nike Women’s half marathon last weekend, where they raised thousands of dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
Erin Davis and Sheila Minten signed up last April to run in the event, and by the time they crossed the finish line they had pledges totalling $12,125 for the charity.
One of Davis’s reasons for running was her dad, who had cancer a few years ago and beat it. Also pushing her onward was her husband’s grandmother, who died from cancer a year ago.
Minten ran in honour of a woman named Elvira Rodrigues.
The two women are mothers and hold down jobs, so the fundraising run was a big commitment.
