I am writing as a follow up to the excellent letter from Keith Davis regarding rattlesnakes in the Kamloops area. This is indeed a good news story for snakes and the people of Kamloops.

It is also a testament to the commitment and hard work of public service staff in managing and conserving wildlife in B.C. But there is another part of the story that Daily News readers might find interesting, and that is the fact that the funding for this work comes from the anglers, hunters, guide-outfitters and trappers of British Columbia. When those individuals purchase a licence, part of the cost goes to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, which then reinvests that funding (over $5 million annually) into conservation projects such as the Kamloops Rattlesnake Harm Mitigation Project.

Without this funding, projects such as this one in Kamloops simply would not happen, and we would all be poorer because of it. To see other projects happening in the Kamloops area, look at our project map at www.hctf.ca.
