Unorthodox prof talks pedagogy at TRU

Dismissed by McGill University in spring 2007

The public is invited to join Dr. Aruna Srivastava and Prof. Norman Cornett at Thompson Rivers University on Wednesday, Oct. 31, for a discussion on radical pedagogies.

Cornett's own unorthodox approach to pedagogy, his method of teaching, is suspected as the reason behind his dismissal by McGill University in the spring of 2007.

The religious studies course lecturer never received an explanation for his removal.

The incident created a furor, however, that resulted in the NFB film, Professor Norman Cornett: "Since when do we divorce the right answer from an honest answer?" by renowned Aboriginal filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin.

Those interested in attending the talk are encouraged to first watch the film for free at http://www.nfb.ca/film/professor_norman_cornett.

The event starts at 1 p.m. in the Old Main building, Room 1496.
