A 16-year-old boy is being held for psychiatric assessment at Royal Inland Hospital after a one-hour standoff with police Tuesday evening on Springhill Drive, Kamloops RCMP said Wednesday.
His mother fled the home at about 6 p.m. after he threatened to use a gun on her and on himself.
Police shut down Springhill and tried unsuccessfully to persuade the youth to come out peacefully. When officers entered the home at 7 p.m., he threatened them with a wooden board. He was subdued with a Taser.
Const. Bernie Ward said there will likely be charges laid in youth court, but did not give details.
