Propaganda is about persuading people to a particular view. That’s what you were doing as editor (Propaganda Clouds Ajax Issue, The Daily News, Oct. 24). Every piece of paper and every workshop that Ajax produced is propaganda.
Every ad in your paper is propaganda. The word has changed now and has a very negative connotation. “Propaganda has become an epithet of contempt and hate,” said Harold Lasswell.
Your very use of the following negative words is propaganda — faulty logic, deception, generalizations, questionable authorities. You do not give one example of any of these. Have you ever accused the mine of “lacking in objectivity?” You are trying to discredit the video without evidence of any proof.
The producers of the video, Is This The Future of Kamloops, are simply pointing out the many issues of concern to residents of Kamloops and area that KGHM-Ajax has omitted or avoided addressing in its propaganda.
I think the Kamloops Daily News should follow its own advice — “The responsibility of citizenship requires us to be informed on matters of public importance.” This is what the video producers have done — informed themselves and created a useful vehicle for further discussion on the risks of a mine in our city.
If you are going to claim a “cloak of deception,” I suggest you do some proper journalistic research beforehand. I would also like to know what you as editor think are the “legitimate concerns.” The fog you refer to may be an unfortunate phrase, as more fog is what atmospheric physicist.
Dr. Schemenaur indicates we will experience if the mine goes through.
