A new location made all the difference for CFBX as the campus radio station raised more than $2,000 with its fifth record fair.

"It's our best year to date," Steve Marlow, program co-ordinator for the non-profit station at Thompson Rivers University, said Monday.

Up until Sunday, the fair's biggest take came in during its second year when about $1,400 was raised in 2009, said Marlow.

Working in CFBX's favour was a change in venue that provided better visibility and more accessible parking. Previously held at Thompson Rivers University, fair co-ordinator Brian Saunderson approached management at Sahali Centre Mall about hosting the event this year.

Within the first hour, 150 people had visited the fair — the same number that attended the entire event last year, said Marlow. By the time all 35 tables were broken down at 4 p.m., 350 patrons had browsed the CD, vinyl, record players and other musical items.

One vendor made $800 during the first hour, he said. And Spinners Sound Centre sold $5,000 worth of turntables and stereo equipment by day's end.

"They will definitely be back," said Marlow.

The record fair is the station's biggest fundraiser of the year. The money typically goes toward new equipment and upgrades.
