Police double presence on streets for Halloween

Thirty RCMP officers, six auxiliary officers, a police dog and the police helicopter will be on duty Wednesday evening to ensure public safety during Halloween, Kamloops RCMP said in a press release.

The plan more than doubles the number of uniformed officers on city streets to watch out for liquor, drug and fireworks offences.

In addition, there will be three city bylaw officers and three liquor inspectors on duty.

In the past, police have received the bulk of Halloween complaints between 8 p.m. and midnight. In 2009, there were 98 calls on a Saturday night, in 2010 53 calls on a Sunday night, and in 2011 74 calls on a Monday night.
