Neighbourhood odour leads police to Barnhartvale grow op

Two police officers sniffed out a marijuana grow operation Sunday morning in Barnhartvale while working on an unrelated investigation.

They were in the 1400 block of Country Place when they smelled a "strong vegetative odour wafting through the neighbourhood," Kamloops RCMP said Monday.

They traced it to the property of a Kamloops man, 51, and his wife, 47, who led them to an outbuilding where officers found growing equipment, 60 mature plants, 35 clones and some dried marijuana bud. The equipment was dismantled and the plants seized.

Police also found four long guns, which were relinquished by the couple.

Staff Sgt. Grant Learned said no charges will be laid because officers had not obtained a warrant for the impromptu investigation and seizure.
