Elli Terwiel of Sun Peaks failed to qualify for her second run in a ladies World Cup slalom race in Aspen, Col., on Sunday.

Terwiel was 38th after her first run, so didn’t qualify for the second. Marie-Michele Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., was the top Canadian, in 18th, while Austria’s Kathrin Zettel won the race.

The next World Cup event is scheduled to run Friday through Sunday in Lake Louise.

Kelly Olynyk of Kamloops and the Gonzaga Bulldogs won the Old Spice Classic NCAA men’s basketball tournament in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The Bulldogs beat the Davidson Wildcats 81-67 in Sunday’s final. Olynyk, a 7-footer who played for the South Kamloops Titans, had 14 points and six rebounds Sunday.

The Bulldogs also won the tournament in 2008.

Olynyk, who had been suspended for the first three games of the season for an unspecified violation of the school’s code of conduct, is averaging nearly 12 points over the past three games, along with almost six rebounds.

The Bulldogs (6-0) are ranked No. 17 in the country. They are scheduled to play visiting Lewis-Clark State in Spokane on Thursday.
