Yes, it’s time. The big push begins today for The Daily News Christmas Cheer Fund.
We have less than three weeks to get this thing done, so we are ready to have some fun. (Pardon the rhyme; it was purely unintentional.)
This is our 11th year and the first 10 have been nothing short of sensational.
We go into this festive season having raised $476,877.68, every cent of which has been passed along to local charitable organizations. The Daily News covers any costs that may be associated with the fund, so we guarantee that every penny that comes in the door also goes out.
And we are well on our way again, as we already are closing in on $7,000.
On Monday, we heard again from the Kamloops chapter of the PEO Sisterhood, an organization that has been active here since March 1968. PEO stands for Philanthropic Educational Organization. According to an accompanying note, PEO is a “sisterhood of women helping women reach for the stars through educational grants, loans and scholarships.” Thanks to you all, and have a Merry Christmas.
The Hanes family checked in again, as did Fran Bailey. It’s always so good to hear from old friends every December. It was great to hear from the Winter family, too, especially at this time of year!
Don’t forget that Larriena Lonsberry and the gang over at Rivershore Chrysler Dodge Jeep are working to pack a Patriot, with Christmas Amalgamated as the main beneficiary. I know there are a couple of brand new games sitting on a shelf at home that will be getting dropped off there over the next few days.
Rivershore also is donating $100 to the Christmas Cheer Fund for each new car sold through Dec. 14.
Walmart also is back on board with us, as is the gang at High Octane Comics and Collectibles, which is located downtown at 250 3rd Ave. Drop by and check out the nifty donation can they have sitting on their front counter.
This time around, there are five local charities — the Kamloops Food Bank, Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home, New Life Mission, Pregnancy Care Centre of Kamloops and YMCA-YWCA Y Women's Emergency Shelter — sharing in your generosity.
If you want to get in on the fun, feel free to clip (or rip out) one of the Christmas Cheer Fund coupons from the paper. Or, if you prefer, come on into our downtown office (393 Seymour St.) and one of the elves will brighten your day.
