    Small hospitals need better hours

I am a senior citizen with chronic health problems and I am fortunate to have a great doctor who practises in Logan Lake. The problem is that Ashcroft Hospital’s emergency room is only open some of the time. One recent evening I suddenly got a rash that covered most of my body and within 15 minutes I had trouble breathing.

Our emergency room was closed and I had to call an ambulance. The attendants were excellent and they took me to Kamloops hospital where I spent the night. It was a very scary situation and would have been so much easier if I could have gone to our local hospital.

We prefer to live here and I believe that we deserve to have our emergency room open all the time. Royal Inland Hospital is always very busy and if the smaller hospitals had a doctor on call at all hours it would relieve some of the pressure on the Kamloops hospital.
