Sports Briefs: Chyzowski named to all-star game

Nick Chyzowski is the lone member of the Thompson Blazers to be selected to play in the B.C. Major Midget League all-star game in Langley on Jan. 18.

Chyzowski, a forward from Kamloops, has 11 points, including seven goals, in 23 games with the Blazers, who play their home games in Chase. He was a second-round selection by the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL’s 2012 bantam draft.

The Thompson Blazers are 3-19-2 after winning a pair of weekend games at Interior Savings Centre.

The all-star game will kick off a weekend of games in Langley. On that weekend, the Blazers will play the Vancouver North West Giants twice.

Salmon Arm has been named the host site for the 2013 male under-16 B.C. Cup.

The hockey tournament, featuring the top 160 players born in 1998, is scheduled to run April 18-21 at the Shaw Centre.

The players will be selected from region camps, and will be divided onto eight teams at the B.C. Cup.

Players will be competing for spots on Team B.C. for the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup. B.C. won gold at October’s Challenge Cup in Calgary.
