End-of-the-world party a tame affair, police report

If getting your car stuck in the snow seems like the end of the world, then a party planned for Thursday night at Tree Flats did indeed live up to its name.

    But otherwise it was dull.

Kamloops RCMP decided to patrol the area just after 9 p.m. after word got out on Facebook that 14,000 people said they would attend a party to celebrate the end of the world as predicted — in some interpretations — by the Mayan calendar.

After setting up road checks in the area south of Barnhartvale, police found a few young people trying to dig out a stuck Honda Civic.

Later, about 20 people gathered around a small fire.

"There were absolutely no reported issues," said Staff Sgt. Doug Aird.
