Regarding Dust Not An Issue (The Daily News, Dec. 17). In order to state that the dust will go only a few hundred metres you have to be really fooling yourself, or not have a clue about how the wind can blow there.
I am very familiar with that area, and have often seen 30 km/h winds from the southwest. Any dust created by a blast at the Ajax site will head to the east side of Coal Hill, and swirl down to the south side of Aberdeen, reaching Pacific elementary school in only seven minutes. The heavy particle will fall closer to the mine but, according to a weather expert we talked to, the fine particulates will easily travel for 10 kilometres.
I am not promoting a doomsday scenario, but in my opinion anyone with a gram of common sense will realize that we already have enough dust in this valley without casually adding more.
One of my friends on Aberdeen Way already suffers from (breathing problems), and he sure feels that way.
