Curling: Brown, Tinkler 2-2 at junior provincials

Brandi Tinkler beat Corryn Brown 7-5 on Thursday in a game featuring two Kamloops rinks at the Tim Hortons B.C. junior women’s curling championship in Coquitlam.

The result leaves both teams at 2-2. Richmond’s Shawna Jensen and Nanaimo’s Kalia Van Osch are tied for first at 4-0, with Brown and Tinkler tied for third.

Tinkler, whose rink includes third Ashley Nordin, second Aliy Nash McLeod, lead Laryssa Legan, fifth Lauren Legan and coach Heather Beatty, split on Thursday. The rink had lost 7-5 to Vernon’s Amy Edwards earlier in the day.

On Wednesday, Tinkler beat Victoria’s Katherine Silversides 9-4 and lost 6-4 to Jensen. Tinkler’s rink will play Van Osch and Chilliwack’s Stephanie Prinse today.

Brown, third Erin Pincott, second Samatha Fisher, lead Sydney Fraser and coaches Ken Brown and Brian Fisher opened with a 10-5 loss to Van Osch, but beat Prinse 8-4 on Wednesday.

Brown went on to beat Kamloops’ Cierra Fisher 9-3, before falling to Tinkler. Brown and Co. will play Silversides and Jensen today.

The Fisher rink lost its opening four games. Fisher, whose rink includes third Samantha Reimer, second Emily Wood, lead Mackenzie Anderson, fifth Megan Wood and coach Brian Fisher, is scheduled to play Edwards and Van Osch today, and finish against Tinkler on Saturday.

The Fisher rink lost 11-3 to Prinse and 11-6 to Silversides on Wednesday, and 9-3 to Brown and 11-4 to Jensen on Thursday.

The championship is scheduled to end Sunday.
