A Clearwater Mountie has been pulled off the street and had his weapons seized in wake of a complaint that his wife, also an RCMP member, fears for her safety.
Cpl. Bart Doerr appeared in Kamloops court on an information sworn earlier this month alleging that Sadie Doerr — a Kamloops RCMP member who is on an extended maternity leave — fears she may be harmed by her husband.
Those allegations are based on incidents between June and October this year in Clearwater, Golden and Kamloops, according to information sworn in the Kamloops courthouse.
None of the allegations is proven or heard in court. The 40-year-old Mountie is scheduled to appear later in court later this month.
Bart Doerr was last working for Central Interior Traffic Services, based out of the Clearwater detachment.
Sgt. Kevin Podbisky, who heads the Clearwater detachment, said RCMP are conducting a separate "code of conduct" investigation alongside the Criminal Code matter.
Bart Doerr's gun, pepper spray and baton have been seized, Podbisky said. He has been placed on administrative duty, a desk job with no interaction with the public.
Podbisky said members of the RCMP's professional standards office are conducting the investigation into the allegations.
Bart Doerr will face the allegations under Section 810 of the Criminal Code. That section allows a judge to order a peace bond, a court order usually used to limit contact between individuals.
An individual can contest Section 810 allegations made by a complainant or agree to abide by conditions sought by the Crown. A peace bond is not a criminal conviction.
Rob Creasser, a retired Mountie who advocates for members as part of an independent association, said "worst-case scenario" for Bart Doerr is a demotion and docking of 10 days pay. He will appear before an RCMP adjudication board.
"I know lots of good members who screwed up. We all have frustrations in our relationships. It depends on whether he has a long history of problem behavior."
Podbisky said Bart Doerr will remain on administrative duty until the investigation is complete.
Sadie Doerr, a constable, is on an extended maternity leave and believed to be living on Vancouver Island with a relative.
