Westsyde drivers — watch out for pedestrians

On the evening of December 5th, I had just taken my dog outside when I heard screeching brakes, then a crash. I knew it was at the crosswalk although I could not see the actual crash scene. From my deck I could see a few cars stopping, but I could also see quite a few cars changing lanes and continuing on their way...seemingly without regard for the young man who had just been hit at the crosswalk.

I use this particular crosswalk often when I need to catch a bus. I take my life in my own hands when I have to cross there. The cars are speeding down Westsyde Road, and most do not stop. There is also a curve in the road, and I have seen one lane of cars slowing down, only to have some idiot who has been speeding change lanes and speed by me...as I am already in the road. I never cross the road unless all the cars have stopped for me, but that curve in the road is pretty close and cars can come up suddenly, especially if they are exceeding the speed limit. This crosswalk is dangerous and something needs to be done to make it safer for pedestrians and vehicles alike.

I find that a lot of drivers in Kamloops do speed, are impatient, do not pay attention, and are only interested in getting from point A to point B in as little time as possible. Because of this, pedestrians are getting hit.

I feel for that young man who used the crosswalk that night, and I hope he makes a full recovery. Let's address this problem so no one else has to be hurt.
