Look at the big picture when driving

People, look! Try the wide screen, not just straight ahead. Make sure you’re seen. This applies to drivers as well.

I watched a person this evening step into a crosswalk, didn't look. I approached the crossing. Had I been distracted, that person could have been seriously harmed, Even as I slowed and came to a stop, there was no eye contact, imagine a driver distracted and then seeing the pedestrian at the last moment. Too late! One more fatality. Never mind how many adults I have seen with a child doing the same thing. Good lesson to be role modeling to our offspring (don't you think?).

Equally I am puzzled about speeding vehicles. It seems I often saw police issuing tickets to those disobeying the rules of the road. Where have they gone?

I drive on the highways within 10 kilometers of the speed limit. In cities the posted limits, or as conditions allow.

I travel within that 10 kilometers margin on highways. A driver goes by me at least 20 kilometers faster, posing a risk not only to me but others. Rarely do I see officers issuing tickets. I am puzzled. Are cutbacks that severe that we no longer have officers available to uphold the laws of our community?
Perhaps there pre-occupied trying to manage other matters. No implications, they’re not doing a good job here. Policing can only be achieved with the funds available in any community.

What's more scary, I see daily infractions of speeding, excessive speeding, in our city. What's the mentality here? "It always happens to someone else?" “Not me!” Perhaps, you just might be right! Dead right! Violators come in all ages groups. Just how big of a hurry are you really in? Precaution and defensive driving has always worked well. Where'd it go? Are you really seeing what you’re looking at?

Or simply just in a hurry to fulfil a previously planned obligation?

I hope so for your own safety, you take the time to look, really look and make it part of your driving routine.
I guess if not. We will be seeing you in the obituaries.
