Community pitches in to help lab struck by truck

Residents start bottle drive in Rayleigh

    Jade

A little black lab hit by a car on highway 5 near Rayleigh Tuesday morning has sparked a community effort to help her recover.

Jade dragged herself across the highway before she was picked up by RCMP and taken to Valleyview Veterinary Clinic. The lab was wearing a collar but it had no identification pointing to her owner.

Before Jade’s owner could be found, an anonymous donor offered to cover $1,000 of her vet bills.

Savonah Raeside-Yablonski came forward through Facebook, saying she was Jade’s owner and would be doing what she could to pay for some of the vet costs.

Her latest update said Jade chewed through her intravenous line overnight and she was being watched to ensure her internal bleeding stopped. The dog had one of her front legs dislocated from the shoulder socket.

A group of residents in Rayleigh has already started gathering bottles to cash in for the vet bill. Theresa Lockhart got things started and by 1 p.m. Wednesday — less than 24 hours after Jade was struck — they had nine garbage bags full.
