One of the city’s fine-dining restaurants has closed, reopening at a lower price-point and extending its hours to offer lunch.

Quattro, located on Fourth Avenue downtown, reopened this month replacing Felix on Fourth, which became one of Kamloops premier eateries when it started four years ago. The ownership and management remain the same.

General manager Dan Yano acknowledged the economy is at the heart of the change, with few people able to afford Felix on a regular basis.

“Not many people can go out and drop $140-$180 for two people all the time.”

That meant many patrons only dined on birthdays and anniversaries — not enough to sustain the restaurant. Most entrees are now about $20, with feature dishes in the $25 range.

Yano also said the principals were looking to change the décor and feel, in addition to the menu.

But the main attraction is the food, what Yano called “simple Italian.

“We’re letting the ingredients speak for themselves… .We’re partnering with Fratelli Foods. They’re ordering a lot of our ingredients from Italy.”

Yano said Quattro will also source much of its meat locally.

The new operation opened at the beginning of the month. Beginning in February, it will offer a lunch menu for the downtown crowd.
