An pacifist Jewish author who argues for Palestinian rights in Israel will be a guest at Thompson Rivers University Jan. 28.
Maxine Kaufman-Lacusta’s latest book is Refusing to be Enemies.
She lived in Jerusalem for seven years and writes on Israeli non-violent activities.
Derek Cook, a political scientist at TRU who is helping to organize Kaufman-Lacusta’s visit, said her advocacy comes amid a shift to more hard line, right-wing tactics by the Israeli government in an election race.
“It’s very difficult to stand up for non-violence and co-operation these days,” Cook said. “Extremists are everywhere.”
The talk is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Clocktower Theatre.
