    Futile to ban semi-auto weapons

In response to Time To Ban Semi-Autos, (The Daily News, Jan. 12). I do not own any guns. However, I do own several assault weapons. I have several knives, three hammers, an axe, a hatchet, and a number of pieces of lumber which could be used as clubs.

Would it interest you to know that many more murders are committed with blunt instrument than guns? Now fortunately for my neighbors, I am a peaceful, law-abiding citizen. All these weapons that I have present no threat to anyone. A criminal is, by definition, not law abiding. A law enacted to do away with any type of firearm has no impact on these people.

Shall we go through yet another exercise in futility by banning semi-automatic rifles, or would those resources be better spent dealing with the criminal element among us? You are a respected and influential voice in the community, Mr. Koopmans. It behooves you to think these issues all the way through before you publish.
