MP Cathy McLeod is reminding people to show appreciation for exceptional volunteers by nominating them for the Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards.
The Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards consist of 17 regional and national awards that recognize the contributions that volunteers make in Canada. Of the 17 awards, two are given at the national level, one for an emerging leader and the second for lifelong achievement. The other 15 awards are divided regionally, recognizing community leaders, business leaders and social innovators. The five regions are the Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, Prairies and B.C. and the North.
Award recipients are recognized at ceremony, receiving a medal, a pin and a certificate from the Prime Minister. They are also eligible to identify a not-for-profit organization to receive a grant of either $5,000 or $10,000 depending on whether the winner received a regional or a national award.
The current call for nominations is open until March 1, 2013 and a nomination form can be found online. For more information and a nomination form visit www.pm.gc.ca/awards or call 1-877-825-0434.
