I could not agree more with the letter Input Not Needed For City Budgets (The Daily News, Jan. 21). I’m sure many Kamloops taxpayers are tired of the annual dance concerning how large the yearly municipal tax increase will be.
The letter stated City councillors must do their jobs, show some courage and some respect for our tax dollars. I would add that when it comes to expense reduction, the ongoing refrain from City Hall is that reduction in operating costs result in a corresponding loss in service.
This simply does not wash. I believe I’m safe in saying that the City does not operate at 100 per cent efficiency. City managers need to manage and identify savings that can be passed on to the taxpayer.
