A northbound pickup truck was totalled in a collision with a semi-trailer truck carrying lumber at the intersection of Highway 5 and the Halston Connector at about 6:40 a.m. on Thursday, police said.
The driver of the pickup suddenly turned left at the Esso service station, and was broadsided by the semi carrying 90,000 pounds of lumber.
The pickup truck was hit on the passenger-side rear fender, turned 180 degrees and slid into a traffic light.
The pickup driver was taken to hospital with a cut to his right eye.
Traffic was snarled southbound as the the truck were removed from the scene.
Damage to the semi is estimated at about $8,000.
"There is no doubt the evasive actions and braking of the semi driver lead to the very minor injuries sustained by the truck operator," said Staff Sgt. Doug Aird.
