Two men caught at the scene of a copper wire theft at the B.C. Hydro yard on McGill Road were in police custody Tuesday morning, Kamloops RCMP said Tuesday.
Security officers spotted the intrusion and theft at about 4:50 a.m. and alerted police. The suspects had used a ladder to get over the fence and had copper wire piled on the outside of it.
Police closed in on the area and nabbed two Kamloops men, 38 and 40, walking toward Hillside Avenue next to Home Depot. Fresh snow revealed footprints leaving the compound. They matched footprints around the pile of stolen wire.
Along with a cache of B.C. Hydro wire of varying lengths and diameter, police found wire cutters and other tools at the scene. Tools were also found on the suspects.
Both men, who are known to police, were being held pending a court appearance Tuesday.
Police are recommending charges of break, enter and theft, and possession of break-in instruments.
