    Assessment appeals down

Thursday is the last day for city or rural residents to appeal their property assessments.

Graham Held, deputy assessor for B.C. Assessment Authority, said the office in Kamloops has received about 215 letters of appeal, down from 300 last year and nearly 450 in 2011.

Those who want to appeal their assessment value to the property assessment review panel must do so by today, Jan. 31, either by mail, email or via the agency’s website.

An independent panel appointed by governments sits through February and March hearing appeals on property values.

Held said the drop in appeals here is similar to other parts of the province. He said the drop in appeals likely stems from stable property values over the past several years.
