I was sitting in my living room one morning when the phone rang. The caller ID showed “unknown caller.” The voice on the line says, “Hi Grandpa.” I said “How are you?” and he said “not too good Grandpa” and I said “Why is that?”

The guy said, “I had a very bad accident and my lawyer says I need $1,800 to defend me in court.” I said, “$1,800? I don’t think I have that much but where do I send it?”

He said, “You can send it to my lawyer in Gatineau, Que. Go to Safeway where they have a Lotto place and you get a form and fill it out with the money order, there is a special box you have to fill in and put ‘yes’ in the box saying you know my lawyer.”

I told the guy I would send the money. The guy said I had only an hour to do this. I said OK, but I did not go any place. I called the RCMP and they gave me instructions on what not to do.

The end result — my wife had just come home as the phone rang. I could hear her getting agitated and started arguing along with some choice words of her own. She slams the phone down. Then I asked her, “Who was that?”

And she said, “Some idiot wanted to know why you did not send him $1,800.”

“Oh,”  I said. “I am certainly glad you told him off!” So please beware. End of Story.
