Police pulled over a speeder on Highway 5 near Darfield and found what appears to be $61,140 in ill-gotten cash.
The southbound vehicle was stopped just before 2 p.m. on Tuesday between Barriere and Clearwater, about 75 kilometres north of Kamloops, police said Friday.
"While dealing with the driver the officer noted several indicators that caused him to enter into an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act," Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said.
A search with the help of a police dog turned up the cash inside a suitcase in the trunk.
A 35-year-old man from Surrey will appear in Kamloops court on April 11 to face charges of possession of property obtained by crime.
