Accident, near-misses prompt new signs in Valleyview

Additional signs have been posted at a Valleyview intersection after recent incidents of vehicles travelling the freeway in the wrong direction.

Although the intersection of Comazzetto Road and the East Trans-Canada Highway was already well marked, additional warning signs were installed on Friday.

At least twice in the past six months, motorists driving east on the Trans-Canada near the Yellowhead exit have come face-to-face with others headed in the wrong direction. The most recently reported incident was a near miss, but a head-on collision in August caused serious injuries to one resident.

The Ministry of Transportation indicated that the intersection is ranked as low-risk but promised to consider the issue as part of a corridor review.
