‘I know the real murderer,’ sex offender claims

Claims to have colon cancer but not allowed to see doctor

A high-risk sex offender accused of killing a Princeton woman again claimed in B.C. Supreme Court he has untreated cancer and can’t get a lawyer to fight a first-degree murder charge.

Roger Badour appeared in Kamloops court Monday following an appearance last month, when he made bizarre accusations in court. He repeated some of them again, including that prison officials won’t let him see a doctor for what he said is colon cancer.

He also claimed he didn’t kill Gisele Duckham. This statement comes after he blurted out last month in court that he pulled the trigger.

“I know the real murderer,” he told Justice Hope Hyslop Monday.

“I’m not going to say who she is. . . . I took a video camera and recorded it and hid it. I will turn it over to the Crown but I want help. I don’t want to blackmail but I want to see a doctor.”

Badour also claimed he no longer has medication for his bipolar disorder. The 64-year-old man is hard of hearing and must wear earphones in court.

In December Badour attempted to plead guilty so he could get medical help in a federal jail.

According to news reports, Badour was on a long-term supervision order in November 2011 after serving jail time for sexual assault. He was reported missing by authorities.

The matter was adjourned last month so Badour could obtain a lawyer, something he has still not done. Hyslop adjourned the matter a week so Badour can get a lawyer and so his medical claims can be checked.

Victoria police issued warnings last year about Badour, who had been convicted of sexual assault with a weapon and forcible confinement.

Neighbours of Duckham said the woman lost her husband several years before and took in Badour, who has a history of befriending vulnerable women.

She let Badour stay in a trailer she owned at the back of her Princeton property.
