ICBC sues Coquihalla maintenance company over massive potholes

A lawsuit has been launched by ICBC after 19 cars had extensive damage due to big potholes on the Coquihalla Highway.

ICBC filed the suit on Monday against the company that maintains the Coquihalla Highway.

The insurance giants argues VSA Highway Maintenance failed in its obligation to drivers on Feb. 4, 2011.

That day, 19 vehicles had extensive damage after hitting a number of large unmarked potholes near the old Coquihalla toll booth.

ICBC has yet to say how much it paid but it’s now suing VSA Highway Maintenance to get the money back.

In the suit, ICBC states VSA Highway Maintenance was aware of the deterioration of the road and the development of the large potholes, but the company failed to warn the public .

The suit states: “VSA was aware of the deterioration of the road and the development of very large potholes and had failed to repair them in a proper manner and/or failed to warn the motoring public of the hazards on the road.”
