Why does North Shore get free ride?

I note that over the past while, the North Shore business area of Kamloops is getting a lot of well-deserved attention. I don’t disagree with the work being done in this area of town but I have to question why I am being asked to pay for it as a taxpayer.

Many new developments have taken place with a mixture of increasing high density properties coming online in this area of Kamloops.

I note that the Tranquille Market with its entrances, gates, etc. is now in place, and the proposed lighting, which will increase security and the work done by the NSBIA, are encouraging but again, why do I have to pay for the infrastructure?

I was recently engaged to conduct a study by a local society to determine why there are no parking meters on that side of town to help offset some of the costs associated with upgrading. My contact with City administration suggested that council would have no interest in reviewing this suggestion.

Why not? The downtown is fighting with costs for parking so why should the North Shore be excluded from the same process if it wants improvement?

From my experience, any improvements to the downtown core come with an expectation that local merchants will contribute an assessment fee, so why not North Shore businesses?
