Not enough traffic for turn lane at Greenstone, TNRD decides

The province has nixed a Thompson-Nicola Regional District request to put a left-turn lane in at Greenstone Mountain Road.

A letter from Transportation Minister Mary Polak to regional directors states ministry staff conducted a traffic count at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Greenstone, and found there’s not enough volume to warrant a turn lane.

In October, Savona-Cherry Creek director Ronaye Elliott asked her fellow directors to send a letter of request to the province asking that the lane to be created in order to slow vehicles down as they turn off the highway.

At the time, Elliott said vehicles cut the corner and drive across private land. She believed a left-turn lane should prevent this and reduce the risk of an accident.
