Clearwater RCMP are seeking witnesses in the fatal crash on Thursday morning of a lumber truck on Hwy. 5 near the Birch Island turnoff.
A northbound semi-trailer left the highway about 10 kilometres north of Clearwater and went down an embankment into a field sometime around 9:40 a.m.
The lone male occupant of the truck was pronounced dead at the crash site. His name was not released on Thursday.
Police believe road conditions were not a factor in the accident, but they had not located any eyewitnesses by late afternoon. A collision reconstructionist, an inspector with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement Unit and the coroner’s office were assisting with an investigation.
