All ideas on public policy should be considered and discussed. Shutting down any ideas is a mistake because it is by competing in a public forum that bad ideas can best be exposed. A retiring MLA should have the same right as any other Canadian citizen to express and support his or her ideas on public policy. On the issue of whether taxpayer dollars is better spent on trade or university education, the only relevant question is whether our society is in greater need of more tradesmen or more university-educated people. The questions of whether politicians or university faculty are overpaid is irrelevant to the question of how taxpayer money should be divided between technical training and university education.
