Man arrested in Valleyview after vehicles broken into

A police dog helped officers link a man with items stolen from cars Wednesday night in the Valleyview Drive and Park Drive area.

Police were called when the 27-year-old man was spotted entering a vehicle in a neighbour's yard at about 9:30 p.m.

A patrol officer nabbed the man as he walked away from the scene. He was detained as a police dog sniffed out a trail back to the break-in.

Among other items, two GPS units were found on the suspect. Police have found the owner of one of them and are asking residents of the area to check their vehicles for damage or missing property.

The suspect was released on a promise to appear in Kamloops provincial court on charges of theft and possession of stolen property. He is known to police in Ontario, Alberta and B.C. for various offences including property crimes.

"Vehicle owners are also reminded to remove all valuable items from their vehicle and to keep all doors locked and windows shut when vehicles are being parked," Staff Sgt. Grant Learned said.
