Kamloops firefighters commit $100,000 for Burn Fund Centre

Kamloops firefighters pose with a cheque for $100,000 in Victoria. From left to right are Jamie Chase, Ed Allan, Graham Mackenzie, Mike Silva, Local 913 president Chris Krutop, Burn Fund president Michael Hurley, Burn Fund secretary-treasurer Larry Hollier, Dean Austinson, Chris Austinson and David Ferguson. Firefighters wearing red and black are part of the honour guard.

Kamloops firefighters have made a commitment of $100,000 for the Burn Fund Centre being built in Vancouver.

They've already donated $27,000 from the proceeds of their calendar sale, and will be busy fundraising over the next two years to make up the difference, said Ryan Cail, the burn fund representative for Local 913.

Fundraisers in the works include another calendar, a walk and a dinner, he said.

Total cost of the Burn Fund Centre will be $13.1 million. Locals from Burnaby, Cranbrook, Delta, Kelowna, North Vancouver District and Surrey are also pitching in for a total of $675,000.

Once fundraising for the Burn Fund Centre is finished, Kamloops firefighters will turn their attention to local charities, Cail said.

He pointed out, though, that anyone in Kamloops with serious burns would be treated at the centre in Vancouver. It will also have accommodation for families
