Penny’s departure brings pennies from heaven

The penny may be officially gone, but it won’t be soon forgotten, thanks to a number of enterprising fundraisers by community groups. RIH Foundation is encouraging donations of pennies in support of child health through a campaign called Pennies for Pediatrics, launched Wednesday.

Pediatrics is in need of new beds as well as a new portable X-ray machine for ready diagnosis of young patients so that they don’t have to be moved around the hospital. Pennies can be dropped off at RIH (second floor) or at local branches of CIBC, Interior Savings Credit Union, Scotiabank and Valley First Credit Union. North Shore Community Centre, 452 - 730 Cottonwood Ave., is also accepting penny donations in support of its regular schedule of seniors programs.
