Highway 5A petition drive includes Kamloops

A local petition to have non-resident heavy truck traffic banned from Highway 5A is well underway, with volunteers canvassing downtown Kamloops as well as corridor areas such as Sahali, Aberdeen and Knutsford.

Residents along the route have become increasingly concerned about safety and environmental risks.  About 450 signatures have been collected to date. A mailer is also being distributed this week to about 5,000 homes within a three-kilometre radius of Hugh Allan Drive.

Each mailer includes a petition requiring a minimum of four signatures to be valid. Petitioners can be any age and must be B.C. residents. For more information, a Facebook page — Safety on Highway 5A — has been set up. Anyone wishing to lend support or obtain a copy of the petition can email safety5A@hotmail.com or MLA Kevin Krueger’s office at Kevin.Krueger.MLA@leg.bc.ca.
