The universe is a wondrous place and Tuesday night, kids and adults alike can learn, through science, just how amazing it truly is.

All of Thompson Rivers University’s departments in the faculty of science share a single night of exploration and discovery from 5:25 to 8:30 p.m.

The family night of science offers chemistry and physics shows with hands-on exhibits from biology, math, animal health science, respiratory therapy and much more.

“I would especially like to invite those budding scientists who are working on their science fair projects,” said physics teacher Mark Paetkau. “This would be a great opportunity to meet up with actual scientists and get feedback and suggestions on their projects, or start a collaboration.

“We have faculty who, in the past, have worked with students and helped them to get their work published in scientific journals.”

Get to the rooftop for astronomy viewing or to the basement for a look through an electron microscope.

The computer lab is the place to be to learn about the development of games.

Or see how physics and astronomy blend to create laser spy technology.

The natural world is also highlighted with a feature on bugs, a few live animals and something called a petting tank.

And for the grand finale, TRU’s chemistry department presents the Wonders of Chemistry Magic Show followed by the TRU physics department show, Vortexes and Smoke Rings.

The event and parking are free. Tickets are handed out for the magic shows at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. due to limited seating.
