The sound of an idling diesel engine can be annoying, but a 24-year-old Kamloops man became so enraged that he pulled a knife and chased a man Sunday at about 10:20 p.m., Kamloops RCMP said.
As a result, he is in court Monday to face charges of assault with a weapon, mischief to property for damaging a police vehicle, and three counts of breach of probation related to a previous conviction for uttering threats.
The incident occurred at as a 41-year-old Dallas area man was loading a Bobcat onto a trailer near 13th Avenue and Battle Street.
A confrontation escalated from verbal tirade to a brandished knife. The Bobcat owner was chased around the truck and trailer as his wife and 15-year-old son watched in horror from inside the vehicle.
The victim was eventually able to jump into the truck, lock the door and call police.
The suspect fled, but a patrol officer spotted him lying on the ground next to the parkade at Columbia Manor apartments at 1336 Columbia St. He was arrested without incident, but kicked and bent the security bars covering the rear side windows of the patrol car.
A search of the area where suspect was found turned up three bags containing his possessions, a knife sheath and a black BB gun, but no knife.
