Scott DeCap, who finished atop the regular-season standings, opened the Sun Life Super League playoffs with an 8-3 victory over Grant Olsen at the Kamloops Curling Club on Monday night.
DeCap took the lead with a steal of two on the fourth end and wasn't headed in the first vs. eighth match.
In other games:
In the second vs. seventh match, Darren Nelson eked out a 5-4 victory over Bob Holden when the latter rolled out on an attempted hit-and-stick with his last rock in the eighth end;
Brent Yamada took a two-point lead into the final end and hung on for a 6-4 victory over Karla Thompson; and,
Mike Reimer got past Corryn Brown in the latter rink's final game before leaving for Sochi, Russia, and the world junior championships. Wayne Saboe's masters team will replace Brown's rink for the remainder of the playoffs.
In the consolation game, Amanda Russet defeated Kevin Ihlen. The score wasn't available.
The second round of playoffs is scheduled for Monday, 6:30 p.m., at the Kamloops club.

Two Kamloops rinks will compete in the 2013 B.C. Masters curling championships that begins next week in Lake Cowichan.
The competitions run from Feb. 28 through March 3.
Vivian MacDonald's rink, which plays out of the Kamloops and McArthur Island clubs, will represent Region 7 in the women's competition. The rink inlcudes third Susan Shaw, second Liz Saboe and lead Pam Jones.
Wayne Saboe's rink, which plays out of the Kamloops club, also will represent Region 7. Also on that rink are third John Pisarczyk, second Vince Hunter and lead John Cox.
Eight women's and eight men's teams will compete for provincial titles, with the winners moving on to Canadians in Thunder Bay, April 7-14.

The Kamloops Classics finished 27th out of 100 teams at the Western Canadian swimming championships in Saskatoon on the weekend.
All told, the Classics had seven of their nine swimmers make second swims during the competition.
Colin Gilbert placed sixth in the 800 freestyle, narrowly missing the qualifying standard for the World Championship Trials in Victoria this spring. Gilbert did set a club record as he missed the provincial record by one second. He also placed fifth in the 200 butterfly, seventh in the 400 freestyle and 11th in the 1,500 freestyle, while setting a club record for the 14 and Under Boys.
Megan Dalke set three club records in placing fifth in the 400 IM, second in the 200 butterfly, sixth in the 400 freestyle and ninth in the 800 freestyle.
Shaina Kloska was fifth in the consolation final of the 50 freestyle, fifth in the 50 breaststroke and seventh in the 100 breastroke.
Sky Camile was seventh in the 400 freestyle consolation final, while Carel Ackermann was 10th in the 50 breaststroke consolation final and Dylana Milobar was ninth in the 50 breaststroke.
